More about this list
Nearly everything in this guide is somewhere you can sit across a board from another person: club rooms that field teams in the Madrid federation's leagues, tournament series that take entries from outside players, bars with sets on the tables, monitor-led park sessions and a Friday meetup. They are grouped by town, the capital first and the municipalities around it after.
A club being listed does not by itself mean an open door, because the federation's venue list gives addresses and says nothing on who may walk in. If you want a game this week without arranging anything, start with the short lists at the head of the page: the walk-in places, the bars, the Friday sessions. For a club, write or call ahead and ask which evening suits a visitor.
